Julieanna Jackson is a 14 year old homeschooler from Mize, MS. She has been watching Miss Mississippi USA and Teen USA program since she was a little girl and is honored to be part of this prestigious group of women.
One of her goals for this year is to help foster a love of reading throughout the state of Mississippi. She has completed over two hundred hours as a reading mentor to young children and has helped put books into the hands of children by donating books in all 50 states. Realizing the value parents play in the process, she created a website, www.JulieannasMatchbook.com, to assist parents and children explore ways that they can foster an enjoyment of reading. Visitors to her website will find a survey for third and fourth graders to help them find their perfect books. (Studies have shown that third grade is the critical transition for young readers. It is typically the year that students transition from learning to read to reading to learn.) To further enhance the use of media, she has also posted several fun YouTube videos of herself reading children’s books. At the end of each book, she shares a tip that can help make reading more enjoyable. In this manner, she can model her love for reading and serve as an inspiration to others and help students find their perfect book. She is committed to the value of her platform and wants to serve as a positive catalyst for young people.
When she is not reading, you can find Julieanna singing or playing the guitar. She has been singing for the past 4 years and it’s one of her favorite things to do. She loves singing ballads but can also jam out to some rock music. She also loves to travel! Some of her favorite places to go are actually right in her home state of Mississippi. She hopes to showcase her love of Mississippi and traveling through her postings on her social media accounts. William Faulkner said it best, “To understand the world, you must first understand a place like Mississippi”.
She is so excited for this year ahead, not only being able to compete for Miss Teen USA but to be able to serve her state. Make sure to follow all of her social media accounts to keep up with her year ahead!
